What Does Success Look Like?
Not a school name. Not a ranking. Not a bumper sticker.
Years ago, Smart College Selection’s Founder Amy carried an index card in her pocket during her own daughter’s college search.
On it she had written one sentence — her definition of a successful outcome for that process. Not the name of a school. Not a ranking. Just what she actually wanted for her daughter: that she would find a place where she would be challenged, be happy, and become more fully herself.
This experience shapes how Smart College Selection works today. Before we ever look at a school, we ask families to define their own success as something deeper — a student who finds their people, a family who stays connected through a hard process, a young person who arrives at college knowing why they chose it, and a successful college journey and transition into adulthood.
Our Goal for Your Student
When it’s time to make a college decision, we want every Smart College Selection student to be in the same position: looking at a list of schools they understand deeply, knowing why each one is on the list, and making a genuine choice between them.
We don’t have a preferred answer. We have a preferred outcome: a student who intentionally chooses rather than randomly lands.
Success Looks Like a Positive Family Experience
We are delighted that over 90% of our students each year come to us through a referral — a sibling of a past client, or a family who wanted to pass along something that worked for them to people they care about. That’s probably the best definition of success for us.
“Smart College Selection is a confident, calm, wise and neutral voice in a chaotic time for a family. Our eyes were opened to opportunities, both financial and academic, we didn’t know existed.” — JJ, Indianapolis IN
