Our Industry Expertise

Providing exceptional college guidance takes more than experience; it requires a commitment to continual learning. The Smart College Selection team doesn’t just stay current in this field — we help shape it.

Leadership in the Field

Smart College Selection’s founder, Amy McVeigh, created the Professional Program in College Admission Consulting at UC Berkeley Extension — the program that trains new consultants entering the profession — and serves on its advisory board. She is the Vice President of Education and Training at IECA, the nation’s leading association for independent educational consultants, overseeing the professional education of consultants across the country.

Every member of our team holds active membership in at least one national and one state-level professional association. Membership means continuing education, access to the latest research, and a formal ethical commitment. It’s what we expect of ourselves, and what our families can expect from us.

Staying Current Starts on Campus

With more than 2,400 four-year colleges and universities in the United States — and many more globally — we value continually learning about schools, their programs, and the students who love them.

We visit 70+ colleges annually, meeting with admissions officers and students. We also regularly attend Zoom meetings with admissions offices, participate in virtual tours, and attend specialized webinars for school counselors and independent educational consultants.

Partnering with School Counselors

We think of school counselors as our colleagues. For our students, that alignment matters — we don’t want students to feel caught between adults with different points of view and experience.

We’ve worked hard to build genuine, respectful relationships with school counselors in the communities we serve. We volunteer at high school events, share resources, and check in each spring before our workshops.

We’re the experts so you don’t have to be.
